Tasty Greek food in South Jakarta!

Having heard of this restaurant from our gastro mania friend, we were not sure if we can find good Greek food (or anything close to it) in South Jakarta. Finally, we accidentally found “Gyro Alley”, a small Greek restaurant, located within a walking distance from our old apartment in Wijaya.

We visited this restaurant on Sunday late lunch time and they were quite busy! We were not served for about 10 minutes so were unhappy with the service. However, we waited for a while and finally were served! The menu was limited and written in the big blackboard above the open kitchen situated at the entrance of the restaurant. There was no drink menu but we ordered ice lemon teas which were very nice and refreshing. As we both love lamb, we ordered the same dish, lamb Souvraki.

We were first sat at the entrance counter on the ground floor. After a short while, we decided to sit at the nice little terrace overlooking Jl. Panglima Polim, and luckily, there was no smokers at that time.

Soon after, our lamb Souvraki arrived and we enjoyed it as it was of good quality. The meat was extremely tender and ingredients were all very fresh. In addition, it was quite filling. (All the menu items, especially the Souvrakis cost around Rp 55,000 – 60,000.) Chilli source was also spicy, tasty and added a punch to the meal.

The décor of the restaurant was also nice and inspiring. Overall, we were quite happy with the place and will come back again!

Enjoyable dinner at a Chinese Restaurant in Blok M

After a hectic day/week and being Friday, we wanted go out for dinner instead of cooking at home which we normally enjoy. Therefore, Rom suggested to go to the Chinese restaurant close to the Blok M Plaza.

Surprisingly, the restaurant was quite spacious and it has a function room upstairs. There were not many people having dinner even though it was Friday but as the evening went on, more people arrived.

The black pepper beef was delicious: the meat was so tender (Usually we find beef in Jakarta tough, like a beef jerky). Rom enjoyed this meal a lot. [Rp100,000]

Simple but fresh kailan with garlic. [Small portion: Rp 45,000]

Kwetiau Siram Seafood: Very lightly flavoured. [Small portion: Rp 40,000]

Good option for casual  relaxing dinner with a group of people. The service was very good and food was served quickly.

Local Fish Restaurant in Panglima Polim

Being Sri Lankan and Japanese, we love fish and seafood.
We wanted to have a quick lunch and went to a Sulawesi Restaurant in South Jakarta.

Fish are displayed outside of the restaurant so you can chose which fish you want and how you would like them to be cooked.

Our favourite dish here is actually Nasi Goreng Sulawesi (seafood fried rice).

We ordered Kue fish and made it simply grilled with salt and pepper. [Rp.130,000, price depends on the weight of your fish]

You can find them on Jl. Panglima Polim IX. They do not speak English so you may need to understand basic Indonesian but they have menu with photos at least.

Lunch at BOKA-BUKA French Restaurant in Cipete

We had an appointment in Cipete so we decided to have lunch in a French Restaurant called BOKA-BUKA.

The ambiance was nice and quiet, and not many people were there while we were having the lunch.

A small glass of ginger juice was served before the meal.
I ordered a fillet mignon and Rom went for a lasagna. (We wanted to have a lunch set @ Rp. 70,000 but learnt that is available only during weekdays…)

The food was reasonable (my steak was a bit salty..) and we only paid around USD20.
There seems to be so many nice restaurants and cafes in this area. We need to explore a bit more!
