Saree Hunting in Delhi

At the last minute, we decided to purchase my wedding saree and booked our flight tickets for Delhi via Colombo.
India is a very popular holiday destination but surprisingly, neither of us has been there before.

Our choice of accommodation in Delhi was Bloomrooms.
They have two branches in Delhi, one near the New Delhi Railway Station and the other reasonably near the Humayun’s tomb. We reserved rooms in both of the hotels and we paid around USD 30 for a double room. Unfortunately, breakfast was not provided but we found the cafe amici next door extremely good value.

We searched for the best shop to buy my wedding saree in Delhi and the receptionist at the hotel recommended us to try Chandhi Chowk area. When we reached there, we were spoilt for choices as there seems to be hundreds of saree shops around every corner!

We visited a few shops and finally decided to have a serious negotiation with the owner of a shop called “Wedding Sarees (India)”. They showed us plenty of sarees but we could not make our final choice. However, we chose the most expensive (!) saree in the shop and made the owner extremely happy. He even gave me a gift of the picture of himself!

Of course we visited Taj Mahal and also stayed in Jaipur (the Golden Triangle Route). We stayed Umaid Bhawan Hotel in Jaipur (reasonable but with character, highly recommended! The roof top restaurant provides very good meal but unfortunately the breakfast was not impressive) and explored the Fort and enjoyed some shipping.
